General Info

Cellar Bar at 80 Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia, has the easy charm people often look for in a relaxed Italian restaurant. The location is central, making it a handy spot for anyone exploring Melbourne’s city streets and wanting a comfortable place to pause for lunch, coffee, or a full Italian meal. It feels like the kind of restaurant where the menu does not need to be overcomplicated, because the focus is on familiar dishes done with confidence.

The food selection gives Cellar Bar a classic Italian feel. Tiramisu is one of the highlights, especially for diners who like ending a meal with something creamy, rich, and comforting. Fettuccine also fits naturally into the experience, offering that simple pasta appeal many guests expect from an Italian dining spot. For something heartier, Lasagne brings a more traditional option to the table, with the kind of layered comfort that works well for lunch or a casual meal in the city.

Seafood lovers also have a few appealing reasons to look at the menu. Calamari adds a lighter, shareable option, while oysters bring a fresh touch that suits diners who enjoy starting their meal with something clean and simple. Together, these dishes help Cellar Bar feel balanced, with pasta, seafood, and dessert all playing a part in the overall dining experience.

Service-wise, Cellar Bar offers outdoor seating, which is a nice bonus in a busy Melbourne location. Sitting outside can make the meal feel more relaxed, especially when the weather is pleasant and the city atmosphere adds to the setting. Great coffee is another strong point, making the restaurant suitable not only for lunch but also for a quick stop during the day. For guests checking reviews or comparing nearby locations, this combination of Italian food and good coffee gives the place a practical everyday appeal.

Payment is straightforward as well, with debit cards and NFC mobile payments accepted. That small convenience matters, especially for city diners who prefer quick, contactless options. Overall, Cellar Bar brings together a central Melbourne address, a clear Italian menu, outdoor seating, and easy payment services in a way that feels approachable, useful, and well suited to casual dining.

What customers say?

“ The front-of-house staff are friendly and professional, and the place carries the genuine charm of an Italian bistro. The food, however, is fairly average. Still, it’s a convenient and reliable option if you’re a tourist in Melbourne looking for something safe and easy. ”

“ I’ve been coming to Cellar Bar since my uni days in the early 2000s and every time I set foot in here I’m flooded with nostalgia. The food for me has been more or less consistent over the years. Sometimes the service is spectacular, friendly, professional and polished (usually dinner service)— and on some occasions like when I popped in recently for a coffee and cannoli, it can be cold and indifferent. Coffee and cannoli were faultless. Regardless of when it doesn’t quite hit the mark , I still love dropping in for the ambience and the nostalgia of the enduring brand of Grossi. Hopefully I’ll be bringing my children here one day soon too. ”

“ Pumpkin Tortellini, Brown Butter Sage Sauce Trofie Pesto Genovese Focaccia Patate Fritte, Rosemary Garlic Salt Oysters Cod Croquettes Cellar Bar is a classic, simple, Italian restaurant and bar located at the top end of Bourke Street in Melbourne’s CBD. The staple of the menu is their handmade pasta and wines. It is owned by @guygrossi, and sits aside the groups three other eateries (@grossiflorentino, @grossigrill, @ombrasalumibar). We started with some fresh focaccia, the amount you get $5 is more than enough to share! The cocktails weren’t amazing, which we felt was a similar experience at Grossi Grill. The Croquettes are always lovely and flavourful here. The pasta dishes were stunning, the Pumpkin Tortellini being my favourite. The Pesto Trofie was a little bland but very generous. The menu stays quite regular, with some specials here and there. It’s a good spot to dine casually outside on a warm day or night. Fuss free and comforting. It’s a vibe! ⭐ 3.5/5 $$ ”
